Prince’s Legendary Yellow CLOUD 3 Electric Guitar Sells At Auction For A Record $910,000

Nearly a decade after his death, Prince is still making music history.

The seven-time Grammy winner’s yellow Cloud 3 electric guitar just hammered down for an eye-watering $910,000 during Julien’s Music Icons sale in New York, setting a new record for the priciest Prince guitar ever sold at auction. The stage-played instrument far exceeded its original estimate, which was thought to be somewhere between $400,000 and $600,000.

The original yellow Cloud 3 is one of the most important guitars in the Purple One’s career. The instrument was used on stage during a number of different Prince tours in the ‘80s and ‘90s including Purple Rain, Parade, Diamonds and Pearls, Sign of the Times, Lovesexy, and Nude.

Minnesota’s Dave Rusan built the guitar for His Royal Badness in 1985. Interestingly, the Cloud 3 was originally painted white that same year by Mark Sampson and later stripped and repainted in peach by Barry Haugen. The “Lemon Yellow Shimrin” shade appeared later and is what remains on the guitar today. In 1993, the Cloud 3 was gifted to a fan during a promotional giveaway in partnership with New York City-based radio station Z100. Along with the guitar, the winner also earned two front-row tickets to Prince’s concert.

Please Please Please

Sabrina Carpenter Drops Video
‘Please Please Please’
From Upcoming LP ‘Short n’ Sweet’

With her new album Short n’ Sweet set to arrive August 23, Sabrina Carpenter is taking us on cinematic journey. Pop culture has long had a love affair with the chaotic yet stylish couple that’s usually comprised of a ‘good girl’ and a ‘bad boy’ whom she loves but who just can’t stop embarrassing her with his crimes. Sabrina’s latest release Please Please Please tips her hat to that tradition, as she portrays a sort-of mob girlfriend to her sexy delinquent boyfriend – played by real-life boyfriend and actor Barry Keogan. It's cheeky, evocative and it contains the immortal line: “Heartbreak is one thing, my ego’s another/I beg you don’t embarrass me ….”

Carpenter shared with Vogue: “I ended the last video ‘Espresso’ getting arrested, so naturally I thought it would be satisfying to start the ‘Please Please Please’ video in jail. I liked the idea of falling in love with a convict and being shocked and embarrassed every time he commits crimes. I was sooo lucky to get Barry Keoghan in the video ’cause he is just magic on screen.”

Meghan Trainor Unveils ‘Whoops’ Music Video & Drops ‘Timeless’ Album

After gifting the four singles “Been Like This,” “To The Moon” and “I Wanna Thank Me” to her beloved fans (affectionately called #MegaTronz), Meghan Trainor finally lifted the lid on the tunes’ parent album – ‘Timeless‘.

The new album is a 16-song set that not only features Niecy Nash and T-Pain among its high-profile features but also songwriting and production contributions from the likes of Federico Vindver, Gian Stone, Emiloy Warren, and more.

As if the new album isn’t enough to celebrate, #MegaTronz will get to hear some of the cuts live when Meghan embarks on The Timeless Tour in September – her first headlining concert in over 7 years.
